Swift CNG

The CNG-powered Swift hatchback from Maruti Suzuki was launched in India in August 2022, Only two variants—VXi and ZXi—of the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG are available, with prices starting at Rs 7.77 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The introduction of the Maruti Swift CNG has been in the news for some time. We have been speculating that Swift will receive the same technology since March 2022, when CNG models of the Dzire were introduced. Since the 1.2L K12 petrol engine is the same in both the Swift and the Dzire, and since Maruti has studied and developed S-CNG technology for one, the other is equally compatible.

The top five slots are occupied by CNG powertrains, and Maruti takes the top four spots among the ten most fuel-efficient vehicles currently for sale in India. These days, there is a lot of demand for CNG, which is also rising in popularity.

Price of the Maruti Swift CNG Launch

In terms of design, the Maruti Swift CNG and Swift ICE are identical. Like other Maruti CNG vehicles, it receives the S-CNG branding. It is available in the VXI and ZXI varieties. Maruti Swift CNG VXI has priced at Rs. 7.77 lakh, while Maruti Swift ZXI CNG is priced at Rs. 8.45 lakh (both prices ex-sh).

Swift CNG models are Rs 96,000 more expensive than their gasoline counterparts. The biggest PV producer in India appears to be responding to the introduction of Tata’s I-CNG with Tiago and Tigor with this move. These are Swift’s and Dzire’s direct competitors. S-CNG options for the Swift and Dzire were therefore somewhat necessary.

We also get the CNG’s associated downsides. First, using CNG fuel will result in decreased performance. Swift produces around 77 PS and 98.5 Nm of torque when powered by CNG, and 89 PS and 113 Nm of torque when powered by gasoline. The boot space is the second-biggest issue. There is a significant reduction in luggage space when a CNG tank is installed in the boot. So much so that boot space is essentially rendered useless. A CNG tank and roughly 10 kg of gas add to the back weight as well. To counteract this additional weight, Maruti uses somewhat stiffer springs on S-CNG models.
