Maruti Jimny VS Thar

Auto Expo 2023 marked the world premiere of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. In India, the debut of the Jimny is something that many people have been waiting for. This new information might potentially undermine Mahindra Thar’s dominance in the Indian market. Jimny is the SUV built for off-roading reasons, and it can do just as much as any other SUV.

Dimensions

The Jimny is around 3,985 millimetres long, 1,645 millimetres wide, 1,720 millimetres tall, and has a wheelbase of about 2590 millimetres.

The Thar, on the other hand, is 2450 mm in length, 1820 mm in width, and 1844 mm in height. There is a clear size distinction between the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Mahindra Thar.

Cruise control, a multi-function steering wheel, rear parking sensors, hill control, and hill descent control are all standard across the board.

Various Engine Settings

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre gasoline engine, capable of producing 102 bhp at its most powerful setting and 134.2 Nm at its most torquey. A five-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission with four-gear ratios transfers the power to the wheels.

In contrast, the Mahindra Thar offers three engine sizes: a 1.5-litre gasoline unit that generates 117 horsepower and 300 Newton meters of torque, a 2.0-litre gasoline unit that generates 150 horsepower and 320 Newton meters of peak torque, and a 2.2-litre diesel unit that generates 130 horsepower and 300 Newton-meters of torque. These power plants are compatible with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. So, Thar has greater leeway in terms of available propulsion systems.

Off-road Specs

There is a 24-degree breakover angle on the ramps for the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which has an approach angle of 36 degrees, a departure angle of 50 degrees, and an overall angle of 72 degrees. Although the Mahindra Thar has a greater approach and rampover angles, the Jimny has a greater departure angle than its competitor.
