Five different Lamborghini Huracán models have been tested since 2014. Lamborghini’s next rear-wheel-drive, four-wheel-steering vehicle, the 2023 Huracán Tecnica, has been updated with new aerodynamics, specialized drive modes, and brake cooling.
The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter 90-degree V-10 engine producing 630 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque, and the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, are carried over from the track-focused Huracán STO. The Huracán Evo AWD, which we last drove, has an all-wheel-drive system and a torque increase to 442 lb-ft; neither of these two variants has any of those features. How does the “best of both worlds” Huracán Tecnica stack up against its more traditional and more experimental sibling models?
Acceleration of the Huracán
All Lamborghini Huracáns have a special launch-control software package: Drive in Corsa (or Trofeo in the STO), turn off the ESC, choose first gear, slam on the brakes, floor the throttle, wait a couple of seconds for the engine to settle into its rpm, and then release the brake (no manual upshifts required). The roaring V-10 engine will calm down to about 4,500 rpm just as you let up on the brake pedal, and then it will go off. Zero-second load times and absolutely no bogging down upon ignition.
Notably, the engine was so loud that the driver’s Apple watches constantly warned him of the risky noise levels. The front and rear tyres on all three vehicles are the same sizes (245/30R20 for the Toyota, Nissan, and Honda, and 305/30R20 for the Honda and Toyota). The Bridgestone Potenza Race L tyre is standard on both the Huracán Tecnica and STO we tested. During our evaluations, the Evo was outfitted with Lamborghini-specific Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres.
Acceleration from zero to sixty miles per hour and other moments at launch
At 3,470 pounds, the 2023 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica reached 30 mph in 1.3 seconds and 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Its maximum acceleration of 0.91 g occurred at 42.8 mph, which is fast enough to break your seatback. The STO, which is 80 pounds lighter than the Tecnica, had a slightly better launch of 1.2 seconds but both reached 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds.
The maximum acceleration of 0.97 g was reached earlier, at 29.4 mph, which is significantly higher. The Evo uses its AWD to reduce its extra weight (3,645 pounds) to a 0-30 mph pace of 1.0 seconds and a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. Unsurprisingly, it continued to accelerate at a rate of 1.09 g as it surpassed 14.2 mph. The Huracán Evo AWD’s acceleration is unparalleled among supercars.
Results After One Year
Though each Huracán’s horsepower peaked at 8,000 rpm, the lightning-fast upshifts happened near the redline of 8,500 rpm, which we found quite intriguing. Somewhere in the middle of the track, the Tecnica recovers 0.1 seconds and passes the STO at the quarter-mile finish line in 10.6 seconds, while the STO takes 10.7. The STO’s massive double-element rear wing, roof snorkel, and other track-oriented aero parts likely contributed to its 2.2-mph disadvantage over the Tecnica in the traps (134.5 versus 132.3 mph). The Evo AWD, meanwhile, keeps the extra 0.2 to 0.3 seconds it gained at the start and runs the 1,320 feet in 10.5 seconds at 132.7 miles per hour.
The Outcome of the Skidpad and Motor Trend Figure Eight
It should come as no surprise that the track-focused STO had the best time on our figure-eight course with the Huracán (22.3 seconds, averaging/accumulating 0.99 g in all four directions). Its average lateral acceleration of 1.16 g was enough to make your ribs rattle as you clung to the ground.
Similar to other Huracáns we’ve tested, but with more volume, aggression, and edge. The overriding impression is one of personal involvement. Because it’s a Lamborghini, the engine can’t be ignored, and the weight-saving techniques are revealed by the sound of gravel being spewed into the wheel wells. It’s a sudden and severe change. To go across the middle of the track, the STO momentarily needed fourth gear, illustrating its short gearing. Compared to other Lamborghinis, the brakes are more manageable than expected. The vehicle’s laser-like focus was achieved through its four-wheel steering system. You may feel dizzy from all the grasp. In the Huracán STO, you get the same sensations as you would in the race car from which it was developed, so you won’t have much room to experiment. Just “Thrash me as I thrash you” is written there.
However, despite the Huracán Evo AWD’s lack of skidpad grip, it matched the lap time of the hardcore STO thanks to its fast acceleration and comparable braking skills (1.12 g). Because the car’s setup isn’t as sharp as the STO’s, a 22.3-second lap with an average of 0.96 g is even more astounding.
The 2023 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica is the slowest of the bunch. As one could expect, the 22.6-second/0.96-g average lap time is very much guaranteed given the STO’s gentler acceleration, identical braking, and poorer average lateral grip (1.09 g). But it’s considerably easier to get to than any Huracán before it. The ABS threshold is clearly shown by the brake pedal, making it simple to avoid going over it. Trailing the brakes into the skidpad and releasing them at the ideal speed is a breeze in the Tecnica as you turn into the corner. There is a hint of understeer near the limit, as there always is with supercars, but this one doesn’t threaten to oversteer until you reach the exit. Very linear acceleration, and a very flawless gear change. Without the STO’s edginess, the total result is a driving experience that is just as enjoyable and fulfilling as that of the STO’s flagship model.

Final Statement
The 2023 Huracán Tecnica lives up to Lamborghini’s promise that it brings together “the best of both worlds.” The supercar’s performance comes perilously (and unexpectedly) near to that of the fast STO, but without the punishment that the latter version of the car inflicts upon its driver. We wouldn’t be aware of the little but detectable performance variations we found in our tests if we didn’t employ the high-quality and costly data recorders we installed in automobiles. The 2023 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica appears to be the perfect middle ground between the other models. While the STO is impressive, we prefer taking the Tecnica through the canyons and back.
