The Taycan, Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle, is now available in India for about Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom, India). It has two different battery pack configurations and a synchronous electric motor with several tuning possibilities. Depending on the configuration chosen, the all-electric has a WLTP-claimed range of up to 484km. Priced starting at Rs. 1.50 crore (ex-showroom, India), the Porsche Taycan is available. It competes against the Audi e-Tron GT.

With the introduction of the brand-new, completely electric Porsche Taycan range and the announcement of a national dealer network expansion plan in response to its best-ever third-quarter sales results, Porsche India embarks on its most ambitious plan in recent memory.

Porsche India has debuted the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo in the nation in 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S forms. These four models are the Taycan, Taycan 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S.

Deliveries will start in Q4 of 2022, but as of right now, the company has only disclosed the price for the base-model Porsche Taycan in India.

“Introducing such a groundbreaking model as the Taycan to coincide with our dealer expansion is proof positive of the roadmap we are developing for future business growth in India as we invest in new products and facilities throughout 2022,” said Manolito Vujicic, Brand Head, Porsche India.

The Taycan order books are now open, and the first deliveries are scheduled for early 2023.

Porsche’s entry-level Taycan with rear-wheel drive offers up to 484 km of range with the Performance Battery Plus, while the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the most potent sports car in the company’s lineup, producing up to 761 horsepower and reaching speeds of 0 to 100 km per hour in 2.8 seconds.

The base model’s over-boost power with Launch Control is up to 408 bhp with the single-deck 79.2 kWh Performance Battery, and with the additional two-deck 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus, that power rises to 476 bhp.

In contrast, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo offers a long battery life, light off-road versatility, more cargo space, increased rear headroom, and all-wheel drive supported by height-adjustable air suspension.

The three available derivatives all come standard with Porsche’s Performance Battery Plus, which has a 93.4kWh battery and a range of up to 456 kilometers.

The Cross Turismo line utilizes the same 800-volt architecture and two-speed transmission as the Taycan.

With 490 horsepower and 571 horsepower in over-boost mode, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo has a top speed of 240 kph and a 0–100 kph time of 4.1 seconds.

In comparison to the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo with over-boost, which has 761 horsepower and a 0-100kmph pace of just 2.9 seconds, the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo offers 625 horsepower with an additional 55 horsepower when utilizing overboost.

The additional Gravel mode for modest off-road driving is included as standard equipment with the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

The new model’s riding height is increased by 30mm.

Gravel Mode alters the two-speed transmission’s shift pattern and throttle behaviour to improve control and power delivery on slick surfaces by coordinating the assisting systems and the rear-axle transmission.

Home and Destination Charging (0 -> 100%)

A conventional wall plug or a charging station can be used for charging.

Fast Charging (10 -> 80%)

Longer trips are made feasible by rapid charging because it adds the most range in the shortest period of time.

After 80% state-of-charge has been obtained, charging power will dramatically drop.

Therefore, a normal quick charge rarely goes over 80% SoC.

The charger being used and the maximum charging power an EV can manage determine the rapid charge rate of the EV.

Porsche Taycan Models

It comes in two trim levels: Cross Turismo and Saloon (Standard, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S) (4s, Turbo, and Turbo S).

Porsche Taycan Electric Motor, Battery, and Range

Depending on the version, the Taycan has two battery pack options: 79.2kWh and 93.4kWh.

The electric vehicle’s claimed WLTP range is over 400 kilometers for all models.

Porsche offers the Taycan with either a single motor or two motors.

Features of the Porsche Taycan include a central 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a third display for the climate controls that are stacked vertically in the centre console.

Other features include a powered tailgate, a 710W 14-speaker BOSE sound system that is optional, 18-way power-adjustable sports seats (on the Turbo S), dual-zone climate control, and 18-way power-adjustable sports seats.

Rev-counters are no longer useful in EVs because they also aid drivers in planning their gear changes.

However, the Taycan has a two-speed transmission when it comes to shifting.

This makes it easier for the Taycan to handle both quick acceleration and leisurely interstate cruising.

When operated in range mode, the Taycan’s single-decker 79.3kWh battery promises to have a range of 300 km and can comfortably transport four adults.

Although placed quite low like most four-door sports coupés, the rear seats have contours that are virtually as good as the front ones. All four seats in the cabin feel comfortably roomy thanks to the polarised glass roof’s abundance of natural light (and warmth on sunny days), and the dashboard, tunnel console, and footwell envelop the driver in a sports car-like cocoon.

The base-spec Taycan, unlike its Turbo or 4S derivatives, uses a single electric motor that only drives the rear wheels. Because the batteries are a load-bearing part of the chassis that sits on the floor, this configuration is comparable to a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive setup.

Just that it weighs two tonnes, making it a performance SUV, for instance.

The amazing handling package that we adore on Porsches is still present, though.

To understand why it is so hefty, you would need to study the spec sheet.

It certainly feels speedy through curves, but it manages to maintain agility on par with a Panamera GTS, which is a significant accomplishment.

That is how strong the dynamics are, naturally, and in classic Porsche fashion, you would really have to drive this car hard around the bends to lose traction and make it twitch and slide.

Although the rear-wheel-drive system sounds simpler in the brochure than the twin-motor Taycan 4S, the RWD is undoubtedly a lot of fun.

The 326PS permanent magnet synchronous motor in the Taycan offers a linear power distribution, but the on-tap performance makes the car seem swift overall.

The throttle pedal has a very progressive and natural feel.
