Founded in 2016 in Southern California, Fisker Inc. is an American manufacturer of electric vehicles by Henrik Fisker. In the beginning, there was Fisker Automotive, which made the premium plug-in range-extended electric sports sedan Fisker karma.
Now, Fisker is making preparations to enter the Indian market, with a showroom set to open in the Delhi NCR area sometime soon. The company’s first product in India will be the Ocean electric SUV, with sales beginning in July 2023. Fisker will invest almost USD 700 million to establish a manufacturing hub in India. Henrik Fisker, Chairman and CEO, told ETAuto that the factory can produce 50,000 vehicles each year.
Fisker Inc. hopes to establish its company and reputation on the shoulders of three pillars: sustainability, design, and innovation. In the face of mounting environmental concerns, an increasing percentage of shoppers are considering products’ eco-friendliness before making a purchase. Fisker believes the Ocean will be more desirable to this demographic.
In the United States, the Fisker Ocean is offered in four different configurations with prices ranging from USD 37,499 (about INR 30.46 lakh) to USD 68,999 (approximately INR 56 lakh). More than 62,000 individual units have reportedly been reserved by clients up to this point, as stated by the firm.
According to Fisker, the Sport model, which had a starting price of USD 37,499 and the Ultra model, which had a starting price of USD 49,999, are both sold out for the year. A release of the vehicle is also anticipated in India. Although it is in a different market and time period, this vehicle may be compared to the WagonR or Santro, both of which have received mixed reviews for their design.
Three distinct models of the electric vehicle (Ocean) are on offer: the Sport, Ultra, and Extreme. While the WLTP range for the Fisker Ocean Sport is 440 kilometres, the Extreme claims to go for 630 kilometres. Brand and battery manufacturer CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited) worked together to create two chemistries for the batteries, optimising performance while keeping costs low.
The 2023 Ocean Sport variant has a single front-wheel electric motor. Zero to 60 mph should take 6.9 seconds with 275 horsepower. Ultra, Extreme, and One use electric motors on each axle for all-wheel drive. With 550 horsepower, the fastest variant can reach 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. All variants have low-rolling-resistance 20-inch wheels. There are also 22-inch performance tyres. Front-drive Oceans can tow 2040 pounds, all-wheel-drive versions 4000.
