When it comes to its product strategy for the Indian market, Tata Motors is becoming more aggressive. Tata has scheduled the unveiling of 4 other items at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show after the Harrier SUV.
The business will display the Altroz premium hatchback, which is ready for production, a 7-seater SUV concept that will probably be dubbed Buzzard, a mini SUV idea that is internally known as the Hornbill, and an all-electric concept. The Indian carmaker is also developing a 5-seater small SUV that will sit between the Nexon and the Harrier SUV; this project is internally known as Tata Blackbird SUV.
Launch Date
Set to launch in February 2023, the 4.2m SUV is the direct rival to Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza, Hyundai Creta, KIA Seltos, and MG Astor. It will come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine under the hood and both are turbocharged. Expected to be launched between Rs. Rs. 10 to Rs. 16.5 lakhs.
To give it a different look from the Nexon, it can be given new styling and a coupe-ish roofline. The Tata Nexon Coupe/Blackbird exterior is expected to get a new design front and rear. A new 1.5-litre petrol engine can be used in this.
Its engine will be an advance from Nexon’s 1.2-litre Revotron engine. It will be tuned to generate around 160 hp power. Transmission options may include MT and AT. Its price can start from around Rs 11 lakh.

Tata Blackbird Interiors
The Blackbird could feature a simple, minimalistic appearance with a layered dashboard and a central touchscreen that stands alone. The 5-seater SUV also includes a two-spoke steering wheel from Tata. A 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system will be compatible with Android and Apple devices. It is also expected to have an electric sunroof, a two-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging, heated front seats, and a cooled glove box are among the features added to the Tata Blackbird.
Tata Blackbird Exteriors
The new ALFA platform, which also supports the Altroz luxury hatchback, will serve as the foundation for the Blackbird SUV. This model is anticipated to measure roughly 4.2 metres in length, which is right between the Nexon and Harrier, and the style will be based on the concept of Tata Harrier.
The SUV is anticipated to have a brash but recognisable design. It is anticipated to have a number of contemporary design features and an aggressive appearance.
A smaller grille with a 3D Humanity line, larger headlights with LED DRLs, fog lamps in the shape of three arrows, slimmer taillights, accentuated wheel arches, a sloping roofline, and others are anticipated to be some of the design features.
Tata Blackbird will also adhere to the same design philosophy as its older sibling, Harrier. A split headlamp configuration with LED daytime running lights on top and headlights at the bottom of the bumper is to be anticipated. Likewise, anticipate an eye-catching new alloy wheel design and a subdued-looking back.
Tata Blackbird Competitors
However, it will be larger in length. It can come out as a tough competition in the mid-size SUV segment SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Seltos and MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Nissan Kicks are already sold in this segment.
At present, the Hyundai Creta dominates the segment and Tata will try to make its new SUV stand out against it.
