To talk about hybrid cars which were a hit, Toyota Prius is one. Considering few facts in terms of reliability, low cost of maintenance Prius is the best, it gave a run for its competitors with in the price range back then when it is launched in 1997. What are the considerable hybrid cars currently available in Indian Market:
Maruti Suzuki:
SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) – Baleno, Ciaz, Ertiga
This technology has a generator and a small battery pack which helps car for smooth idle start stop situations. This technology feeds initial torque energy to the car before ICE is started from the Li-ion battery pack which is charged through regenerative braking.
IEH (Intelligent Electric Hybrid) – Grand Vitara
After its success with SHVS mild hybrid technology in above models, Maruti Suzuki recently showcased its upcoming new strong hybrid technology IEH (Intelligent Electric Hybrid) in All New Grand Vitara.
Compared to its existing technology SHVS, IGS is better in every way.
IEH VS SHVS:
- IEH can run on pure EV mode based on strong Li-ion battery pack and energy is fed to an electric motor for short distances with certain speed limit in low power demand situations.
2. If more power is required the intelligent power unit automatically switches on the ICE and power is utilized from both the sources.
TOYOTA: URBAN CRUISER HYRYDER Similarly, the Grand Vitara’s twin from Toyota is Urban Cruiser – Hyryder also uses the same hybrid technology.
Now, as we are on par with the developed countries in terms of new car models acceptance, with available hybrid options “we are ready for hybrids and will be a hit in Indian market”.
